Steve Shearer
Hello, I’m Steve!
I’m the owner of Comvert Marketing, where I help businesses improve how they look, communicate, and grow online through branding, logo design, WordPress website development, SEO, AIO, and digital marketing strategy.
Like many business owners, I wear a lot of hats, but Comvert Marketing is not a one-person operation. We’re a small team with the goal to deliver effective, professional work that helps each client move forward with confidence.
My path into design and marketing was not perfectly linear, but it shaped the way I work today.
I started work as an umpire for the KW Optimist Club, officiating T-ball, 3-pitch, and eventually softball games, learning valuable communication skills. From there, I moved into retail, selling hockey and baseball equipment with a focus on goaltender gear. That role became my first real introduction to marketing, design, and customer experience.
While working in retail, I used downtime to improve the store’s presence online, and in-person by creating consistent signage, email promotions, web updates, and manage e-commerce sales. I quickly realized that good design was not just about making something look nice. It made information easier to understand, helped customers make decisions, and gave the business a more professional presence. Even small details mattered — and customers noticed.
I originally studied Electrical Engineering at Conestoga College before shifting my focus to Business Marketing. That mix of technical thinking and creative problem-solving still influences how I approach projects today. I like clean design, but I also care about structure, usability, strategy, and whether the work actually supports the business behind it.
Through my 20’s, I worked in the signs and vehicle graphics industry, where I continued developing my skills in branding, graphic design, layout, production, and visual communication. That hands-on experience gave me a strong respect for practical design; the kind that needs to work in the real world, not just look good on a screen.
My Skills
Outside of that work, I continued building my skills in freelance website design, WordPress development, SEO, social media marketing, photography, and brand identity design. Over time, those interests became the foundation for Comvert Marketing.
Today, I work with businesses that want to build a stronger brand, improve their website, clarify their message, and become easier to find online. Whether I’m designing a logo, building a WordPress website, improving SEO, or helping a client plan their next step, my approach is practical, honest, and focused on long-term value.
When I’m not working, I play, write & record music. As a drummer of 15+ years, guitarist of 5+ years and a casual audio engineer of 10+ years, this is my escape.
However, I still play hockey, love to golf, love to travel and can’t help but try new things when time permits.
